Such cases are common when Apple users can not find any specific entry in the Notes app of their iPhone. So if you are experiencing such an issue, then you are not alone. Usually, this issue occurs when the users have saved their Notes on any third-party email account, like the AOL mail account. And though losing such notes can create issues, it is not impossible to recover them.
Now several times, the users don’t mind if they lose such notes. But sometimes, they lose critical information like information about any account number, or confirmation code, or password. And in such situations, it becomes essential to retrieve these notes. And if you are certain that you have lost these notes in AOL or any other third-party email account, then you can use this guide to recover them.
The following is the step-by-step information to recover such notes from any third-party email account. And in last, you will find information to retrieve this information specifically from the AOL email.
1. First, you need to know where your Notes are
If you are looking for your notes, check the Folders tab of your iPhone. You will mainly see at least three options in this tab: iCloud, On My iPhone notes, and Notes. If you can not find your notes either on your iCloud or On My iPhone notes, it is obvious that you have saved them in the Notes option, which will lead to your third-party account. So click on the Notes option and try to find your notes here.
2. Look for the Third-Party Notes in Search
Now, if your notes are really saved in this third-party account, then there won’t be any trouble finding it. Every search result will show you the folder in which your notes could be in, along with the account it could be in.
3. Now check that the Third-Party account is connected
If you are unable to find your notes using the previous step, then the case could be that your third account might be disabled for your notes app. So you have to check that the account on which you might have saved your notes is actually enabled for your notes app or not.
We are incorporating this step because some users forget to sync the email account with the notes app. Or they unknowingly disable the switch for notes option while re-adding the account. This way, the files saved on the third-party app will not appear in the Notes app. Therefore, the notes that you are looking for may be saved on the third-party account. But you can’t find them because the third-party account is not connected to the Notes app.
To find that your third-party account is connected to the notes app, open the Notes app and open the Accounts tab. Here you can see which of the third-party accounts are synced with the notes app. In this accounts tab, you can select the account which you think could contain your notes. Or you can also check each account individually. But do not forget to Switch next to the Notes is toggled on.
4. Disconnect and then reconnect the third-party account.
If the account is enabled with the notes app, but you still can’t find the files you are looking for, we suggest you disconnect and reconnect the third-party account.
To delete the account, first, go to the account details page. You will find all the toggles switched on. Next, go to the bottom of the menu, and you will see the Delete Account option; Click on that. Now see the next step to reconnect the account.
5. To reconnect the third-party account
Now, if you are sure that you had a third-party account, but you can’t see it in your notes app or in the settings of the notes app, then you have to reconnect your account. To add your account, first, open the settings tab of your iPhone. Then go to the Notes tab. And lastly, open the Accounts tab. From the account tab; click on the Add Account button.
Now you have to select the type of account that you want to add. And further, follow the on-screen instructions to connect your account.
To sign in to your account, first, enter your login credentials. And don’t forget to move the toggle button to On before clicking the Save button to connect your account.
6. Don’t make any mistakes while adding the third-party account
There could be a situation when you don’t see the Notes option while adding the account. This usually happens in the cases when the users are using Outlook email services. So if you are using the Outlook option, try Exchange instead. And if you are using the POP server settings for your incoming server, try IMAP instead.
7. Lastly, look for the deleted notes in the third-party app
Whenever you delete some file from the notes, it usually goes to the account’s recently Deleted folder. Thus you can easily recover your files from this file. But the problem here is that you can find this folder only on the iCloud and On my phone app.
Now the notes that you delete from your third-party account are permanently deleted. But still, you can recover some of your notes, although we cannot give any guarantee. However, recovering these notes is a bit hassling.
There could be chances that you have not synced your Notes app with the third-party email provider. You can find your notes as the regular notes in the email provider’s own app in this case. You can also copy the information from the regular notes file and paste it into the new note folder of your app.
But even if you have synced the email provider account with your notes app, you can still find your notes. You may find these notes in the trash folder of your third-party email provider app. Now you can move back your deleted notes from the trash folder to the main folder. Or you can copy-paste the content of your note file to a new note.
For the AOL Email account
To find the notes file in your AOL app, first, open your AOL app. Also, ensure that you are signing in to the correct AOL account. Then click on the Inbox button from the top left panel of the screen. Now open the side bar, and you will see the Notes option under the folders; select that. If your AOL account is not synced with the notes app, you may find the notes you are looking for.
But if you have synced your Notes app, check the Trash option with the AOL email account. To check the trash folder for the notes, first, click on the Notes from the top left corner. And then click on the Trash button.
Please remember that the files you delete remain in the trash folder for just seven days. And after that, the app permanently deletes them. And files you delete do not appear instantly in the trash folder. It takes a little time.
